Cooperation with Movyon and Proger for the registration and surveillance of more than 40 bridges in the area was activated.
The mapping and monitoring project of works in the territory of the Province of Arezzo has begun. The infrastructures selected by the Province are being surveyed and inspected in order to determine their state and assign a class of attention. The activity is the result of a collaboration with Movyon, a leader in the development and integration of Intelligent Transport Systems solutions and a centre of excellence for research and innovation of the Autostrade per l’Italia Group, and Proger, one of the most important engineering companies in Italy, with many activities abroad as well, responsible for the infrastructural surveillance of more than 7,000 bridges, viaducts and tunnels on the national motorway network. This collaboration stems from an initial test started a year ago on the ancient Ponte Buriano.
The assets in the Arezzo area are the first in Italy outside the motorway context to be inspected by Proger and digitised using ARGO, the platform developed by Movyon in collaboration with IBM for managing the service cycle of the assets on Autostrade per l’Italia’s network. The solution includes the digitisation of infrastructure assets, their storage in a database for data and process governance and control, and the use of a mobile app to support field and remote inspections. The platform, developed based on the new guidelines of the Higher Council of Public Works, is integrated with the AINOP system, the National Computer Archives of Public Works, is cloud-based, and is supported by training and assistance services.
In detail, there are 44 bridges across the territory that Proger’s inspectors are inspecting with ARGO. A timely survey that will allow the Province to better plan any maintenance work that needs to be undertaken, also optimising the management of funding.
“The fruitful cooperation with Movyon, which began last July 2021 with the pilot project for the monitoring of the ancient Ponte Buriano with cutting-edge technologies, continues. The state-of-the-art technology platform provided enables to observe the state of deterioration of structures in real time, in order to intervene promptly. The interesting opportunity offered by Movyon to monitor the safety of bridges made us choose to extend the collaboration by surveying a further 44 bridges throughout the province with the support of Proger. We chose the most relevant infrastructures and then identified the priorities to decide on the next investments. In the past, interventions were chosen without really understanding the real situation of these deeper structures. In this case, on the other hand, through the processed data that will be provided to us, we will be able to understand the real condition of our infrastructure, which ones need significant investment and what kind. By the end of the year, we will be provided with the first evaluations and from there we will start with the designs that will be added to those already underway. In doing so, we will integrate the request for economic resources to be submitted to the Ministry in the context of the funds granted to local authorities for this type of interventions, which should be available in 2023”, stated Silvia Chiassai Martini, President of the Province of Arezzo.
“Starting today, the ARGO platform, which already manages the digitisation, inspection and monitoring process of the motorway infrastructure in an integrated manner, is applied to the territory’s assets. In fact, the experimentation carried out on the Ponte Buriano allowed us to make this technology easily accessible to local public administrations and suitable for managing smaller infrastructures with limited investment. Our collaboration with the province of Arezzo demonstrates how ARGO can be used to serve the national economic system, providing local administrations with a powerful tool to support data-driven decision-making”, stated Lorenzo Rossi, Chief Executive Officer of Movyon.
“We are delighted to provide the Province of Arezzo with Proger’s expertise in infrastructure surveillance. Thanks to the expertise and experience of our inspectors, we are able to assess the degree of safety of the single assets and, consequently, the possible need for structural upgrades to ensure their full usability in complete safety”, stated Valerio Lombardi, Civil Engineering Business Unit Director at Proger.
